Milestone Begins Construction on Reeves County Landfill

Good news for Permian Basin producers came on Thursday as Milestone Environmental Services announced it has begun construction on a RCRA-exempt oilfield waste disposal site in Reeves County in West Texas. Here is the text of the company’s press release:

HOUSTON & MIDLAND, Texas – May 29, 2019 – Milestone Environmental Services (Milestone), an industry leader in oilfield waste disposal services, announced today that the company has begun construction of an RCRA-exempt oilfield waste landfill in Orla, Texas. The facility, which was permitted in March, will have capacity for approximately 6 million cubic yards and is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of this year.

The 80-acre landfill is co-located with Milestone’s existing Orla slurry injection facility and will accept all RCRA-exempt oilfield waste streams, including cuttings, contaminated soils, and water-based and oil-based muds, with room to expand capacity. Once the landfill construction is completed, Milestone will be able to accept all oilfield waste streams at its Orla location, adding solids disposal capabilities to its already best-in-class slurry disposal offering, and allowing the company to better serve clients in the Delaware Basin through comprehensive waste disposal services.

“Breaking ground on our first landfill facility is a significant and exciting step for Milestone. Having the ability to handle all oilfield waste streams, much less in a single location, allows us to offer customers a comprehensive service with much greater efficiency,” said Milestone President and CEO Gabriel Rio. “Milestone has committed to building the infrastructure necessary to enable our customers to operate in a sustainable way, and beginning construction on this landfill illustrates our promise to do just that. Having best-in-class E&P landfill and slurry injection capabilities offers the best environmental and operational solution to our customers.”

Construction of the Orla landfill begins less than two months after the company announced permitting for a second landfill in Upton County. Expansion into landfill services is the latest endeavor by Milestone, following the successful opening of two slurry injection facilities in the Permian Basin in 2018. The company’s recent growth has propelled it as the clear leader in slurry waste disposal in the Permian Basin. Milestone plans to develop several more new sites in the Permian over the next two years, including both landfill and slurry disposal facilities.
