Ah, a new year.
It’s about that time to hit the gym and shed a year’s worth of ice cream and french fries.
To be honest, 2016 was a tough year. I think many feel the same. And during those tough years, we can let go of our weight loss goals or fitness regimens due to stress at work, busy family life, or just plain lack of motivation. But the time to get back into your routine is here. And this year, I’m sticking to my New Year’s resolution to get healthy!
So I’ll be packing up my workout bag and getting back to my favorite gym: Gold’s Gym. I’ve been a customer for a while now, and I must say, I just love that place. The employees are friendly, the clientele is welcoming and supportive (at least in my experience), and the facilities have all the amenities I need.
Of course, every location has a specific amenity list. My location offers child care, free fitness classes during daytime hours, a lap pool, a private women’s area with various machines and fitness equipment, a sauna and steam room, and more.
The free child care is amazing! I know my son has someone to watch him so Mommy can have a workout, and I’m close by if they need me. I love the convenience factor. And my son, who doesn’t go to daycare, can get some friendly interaction with other kids his age.
I love yoga. I think it is so relaxing and invigorating. I feel so good after a yoga class. It’s amazing! And my gym offers at least three different kinds of yoga for people with various fitness needs and skill levels, so it’s great for newbies and advanced yogis. In addition to yoga, Gold’s Gym offers some really fun classes like Body Pump, Body Combat GGX Cycle, Aqua Fitness, Zumba and more.
As far as their machines and fitness equipment, there is a lot of variety to choose from. I personally don’t like using elliptical machines, and treadmills can get boring for me after a while. I prefer to jump on the rowing machine and get into a rhythm. It’s a great workout and I feel like it’s kind of fun! But there are people out there who will run on a treadmill for an hour or really enjoy the stair-stepper, so having that variety there is amazing. Plus, they have every kind of weightlifting machine you can think of, including free weights.
I had the pleasure of doing a four-week course with a trainer. It was great. My trainer’s name was Cody and he was very patient and supportive of the things I liked and didn’t like to do. He made my workouts fun and showed me a lot of new things I hadn’t done before. After those four weeks, I was more confident in myself walking into the gym and knowing a lot of ways to workout.
The best part of my workout though is going to the steam room after really getting my sweat on and just relaxing for a bit. I know my son is close by and being watched over; it’s usually pretty quiet in there and I can just unwind. It really is something I look forward to doing. I guess you can say it’s my reward after a good workout!
I can’t say enough good things about Gold’s Gym. If you have the dedication to get into a workout regimen, I would definitely recommend this gym. If you’re on the fence about it, they usually have buddy programs every few months where members can bring in a friend, so keep an eye out for that and go along with a buddy who has a membership. Just remember, if you’re paying for it, you might as well use it. So get in there and be healthy in 2017!
