Here are the Top Dozen Oil & Gas stories for February 13, 2017, taken directly from the @GDBlackmon Twitter Feed (that’s me):

Note:  Today’s first three stories all touch on the evolving Dakota Access Pipeline saga.  We have a potential environmental tragedy developing at the site of the 8 month-long protest in North Dakota.  The last 200 or so activists are finally packing up to leave as unseasonably warm weather is causing an early snow melt and turning the site – which is in the middle of a flood plain – into a muddy quagmire.  That flood plain drains into a lake that is used for drinking water by local Indian Tribes.

Unfortunately, these spoiled, narcissistic radicals have ignored repeated requests from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe since last November to vacate that site, due to concerns about exactly this sort of scenario developing once the snow melt began, which is normally in late February.  The protesters and the radical organizations that have raised millions of dollars to fund the protest are of course leaving the entire cost of the massive cleanup job to the Tribes and the local county officials.

That cleanup effort started about ten days ago, and has to this point removed more than 80 large truckloads of garbage that the protesters simply allowed to pile up at the site.  A county official estimated yesterday that that part of the effort is only about 25% complete, and the trucks are now having trouble accessing the site due to the muddy mess from the early snow melt.

Another, possibly larger part of the problem is that these filthy protesters used open latrines for bathrooms over the past 8 months, during which there have been as many as an estimated 800 people at the site.  Obviously, if that human waste runs off into the lake, along with any trash that local officials are not able to remove, these self-described “water protectors” will have succeeded in having created an ecological disaster in the nearest body of water.

And again, no one among them is making any effort to assist the Tribes and county officials with the cleanup.  Nor are any of the dozens of leftist celebrities who have gotten a little face time on television by visiting the site of the protest.

If this surprises you, then you just haven’t been paying attention to these people.  This is who they are.  It is what they do. – David Blackmon
